I hopped off the plane at LAX…

…and went straight to our Airbnb. This was my first experience using Airbnb, and I was pleasantly surprised. We were lucky enough to find an Airbnb private room (which is the cheapest option) with the owner out of the country, so we had the house to ourselves. That said, I don’t think it would have been such a great experience if we shared our space with someone else. I am pretty low maintenance when it comes to cleanliness and amenities, but I do like my privacy. That’s a decision you need to make for yourself when looking for a cheaper Airbnb. Nick and I together paid $400 for 5 days, so we call that a win especially in Los Angeles! Get $40 off your first Airbnb with my referral link here:ย www.airbnb.com/c/marissaw726

Transportation

Fair warning!!! Los Angeles needs help with their transportation system. We used the 7 day Metro pass which was $25 each. It could get us almost everywhere we wanted to go, which we thought was great until we got lost more times than I can remember. I would still recommend using the Metro system because it is very cheap and just as efficient as Uber/Lyft time wise. Just remain very vigilant, so you don’t get lost like us! Also, Los Angeles always has traffic, so sometimes the Metro is the faster option. Sometimes we chose to use Uber/Lyft for really short rides or really long rides. We would compare rates on both, and Lyft was usually the cheaper option.

Hollywood

The Price is Right

Nick and I decided to be extra cheesy and go on a game show. Nick’s dad loves The Price is Right, so we decided to check it out for him. We waited 5 hours to get into the show with a guaranteed ticket! The line was filled with hyper, game show enthusiasts, and Nick and I were beginning to question if we belonged here. (lol) Fast forward to being seated inside the studio, we had a BLAST. There was lively music, real contestants, Drew Carrey, etc. We danced, cheered, and followed all stage cues. It was very cool to see the behind the scenes action of The Price is Right or any game show for that matter. I’m glad we decided to do it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hollywood Sign

This is a must when you visit Los Angeles. The view of the city is breathtaking. Plus, the Hollywood Sign makes for a good background in pictures! Pro tip (…err lazy tip): You don’t actually have to hike if that’s not what you’re into. We Ubered to the top to save some time. You can put in the address 4200 Deronda Drive, but take the road until you run into the trail gate. We walked around the top taking in the view from every direction. Instead of Ubering down, we decided to hike down through the pleasantly unique neighborhood.

Walk of Fame

We accidentally wound up here one night after getting lost using the metro system! #blessed We made our way here twice because it was so lively and fun– a true tourist trap. The street performers ranged from Michael Jackson to Michael Jordan, and there were two live painters spray painting galaxy scenes like you see on Facebook! There’s no shortage of shops here either. They have a full mall in the middle of all the hustle bustle. There are also fun museums such as Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Guinness World Records, and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.

Downtown Los Angeles

Our day started out down by Angel City Brewery to find a pair of Colette Miller wings. After a successful photo shoot, Nick decided to reward us with sushi from Tenno Sushi. It was such a lovely day that we decided to walk everywhere downtown, and Tenno Sushi was only a block away from Angel City Brewery. I was quickly satisfied by a tempura assortment and the Pink Lady roll. If you haven’t tried a thin slice of lemon on your sushi before, make friends with your local sushi chef and ask for it!

Disney Concert Hall

Nick and I stopped at the Disney Concert Hall before The Broad to kill time, and we found the most amazing view of Downtown Los Angeles. Other than music, the concert hall is known for photographers using its swirling silver walkways and lush secret garden as backdrops. Self-guided tours are also offered at the entrance if you want to learn about the hall and explore the grounds. Overall, we enjoyed our time exploring the area! The rooftop garden is the perfect place to spend a summer day.

The Broad

The Broad has been known for housing unique exhibits such as the Rain Room and the Infinity Room. We wanted to go into the Infinity Mirrored Room so bad, but we missed our chance. Get yours tickets ASAP, and book for the morning!ย Our tickets were for 2pm, and the exhibit was already fully booked for the day. Although that disappointed us, we still had a good time roaming around and commentating on the art.

El Pueblo de los Angeles

This gem is across from the Union Station. It’s the perfect resting place in the middle of a long day. The courtyard is surrounded by bright-colored flowers.

Dodgers Game

Do you and your man a favor and sit in the Coca-Cola All You Can Eat Right Field Pavilion. They may not be the best seats, but who can pass up unlimited nachos, hot dogs, popcorn, and peanuts for only $25?!

Venice

Venice is a great place for skating, surfing, and shopping. We joined the large crowd surrounding the Venice Beach Skatepark before heading to the beach. We sat on the beach in a surf only zone, but I loved watching the waves crash up on the rocks. It looked like the finale of Part of Your World each time. It’s so easy to stay on the beach in California all day and not have to get in the water (unlike Florida). After the beach, I made Nick check out the shops on Abbot Kinney with me. This is a great outdoor shopping street where many locals will go.

Santa Monica

The Pier

Walking the pier was relaxing and iconic, but my favorite part was the guy pole dancing to Britney Spears for money. Props to him! He killed it. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Also managed to find cookie monster ice cream. It’s a specialty of mine!
